Ascension names senior vice president of operations

Ascension created a new role for Sally Hurt-Deitch, who will become senior vice president of operations, the Catholic health system announced Tuesday.

Hurt-Deitch will work with Ascension’s market leaders to align operating models while overseeing the system’s imaging, performance optimization and enterprise project management divisions. She was with the hospital chain Tenet Healthcare Corp. prior, serving as group CEO of its Mid-South sector, chief executive of its Memphis market and CEO of St. Francis Hospital.

“I have known Sally for many years and we are very excited to welcome such a passionate, experienced and dedicated healthcare leader to Ascension,” Ascension Chief Operating Officer Craig Cordola, said in a news release. “Sally will help guide our operations to ensure we provide compassionate, personalized care to those we are so privileged to serve across our healing ministry.”

Hurt-Deitch will report to Cordola after she starts on Oct. 25.

The El Paso, Texas-native and registered nurse has been a chief nursing officer, chief operating officer and chief executive officer over her 18-year tenure in the industry.

The 139-hospital Ascension reported a $676.3 million operating income on operating revenue of $27.24 billion in 2021, up from a $639.4 million operating loss on operating revenue of $25.26 billion in 2020. It received about $1.8 billion in COVID-19 relief grants over the past two years.
