Walgreens Boots Alliance and VillageMD are expanding their co-located primary care clinics into Colorado.

The Village Medical clinics are connected to Walgreens pharmacies — two in Fort Collins and one in Longmont. Walgreens said the clinics will create 70 full-time jobs. It marks the 11th state where the co-located clinics operate.

In 2021, Walgreens invested $5.2 billion to take a majority stake in VillageMD, which has more than 20,000 employees across 680 practices in 26 markets. The two outlined plans to open 1,000 Village Medical at Walgreens locations by 2027. There are now more than 200 co-located clinics. About half of the patients at those clinics fill their prescriptions through Walgreens, Chief Financial Officer James Kehoe said on a March earnings call.

VillageMD brought in more than $1.1 billion in sales for Walgreens in the company’s fiscal second quarter.

Dr. Clive Fields, chief medical officer at VillageMD, said the provider seeks to tackle chronic disease in underserved areas by creating more access to value-based care. In January, VillageMD closed an $8.9 billion deal to buy Summit Health-CityMD, extending its footprint into multispecialty care.
