Oerlikon, a Swiss leader in polymer processing and additive manufacturing. has recorded a 17.2 per cent revenue hike to CHF 695 million (Swiss franc) in the third quarter (Q3) of FY21 ended on September 30, 2021, over the sales of same period in prior fiscal. Order intake during the three-month period increased by 61.0 per cent to CHF 835 million (CHF 518 million).

“Polymer processing solutions achieved record order intake and sales and is on-track with the integration of INglass. In surface solutions, we continue to drive margin expansion, underscoring our commitment to maintain the low fixed cost base we have achieved,” Dr Roland Fischer, CEO at Oerlikon Group, said in a press release.

By division, surface solutions division business recorded a 15.2 per cent sales jump to CHF 323 million, impacted by supply chain bottlenecks in some markets, particularly automotive. The division continued to recover in automotive, tooling and general industries, and in aerospace as well.

On the other hand, polymer processing solutions business achieved sales of CHF 665 million, up by 54.3 per cent over Q3 FY20, attributed to the high level of orders and ongoing strong demand for filament and texturing equipment in China and recovery of the carpet yarn (bulked continuous filament, BCF) business in the US.

“Following our strong Q3 results, we reiterate our group guidance for the full year of 2021. On that basis, we expect that our broad portfolio of solutions and technologies will allow us to generate higher sales and margins in 2021 than in 2019 before the pandemic,” Fischer added. “Supply chain disruptions are expected to extend into the first half of 2022. We will continue to actively manage and mitigate the impact of these challenges.”
