Indian Railways’ freight earnings rise 16% YoY for Apr-Dec 2022

Indian Railways’ freight loading for the first nine months of the financial year (FY) 2022-23 crossed last year’s loading and earnings for the same period. The country’s railways have earned ₹1,20,478 crore against ₹1,04,040 crore over last year which is an improvement of 16 per cent year-on-year (YoY), said the nation’s railway ministry.

On a cumulative basis from April–December 2022, freight loading of 1,109.38 MT was achieved against last year’s loading of 1,029.96 MT, an improvement of 8 per cent YoY, according to a press release by the Indian ministry of railways.

During December 2022, an originating freight loading of 130.66 MT was achieved against a loading of 126.8 MT in December 2021, which is an improvement of 3 per cent YoY. Moreover, freight revenue of ₹14,573 crore has been achieved against ₹12,914 crore freight earnings in December 2021—thereby an improvement of 13 per cent YoY.
