Euro area unemployment rate 6.6% in Sept 2022, 6% for EU

The euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 6.6 per cent in September this year, down from 6.7 per cent in August and 7.3 per cent in the same month last year. The European Union (EU) unemployment rate was 6 per cent in the month—stable compared with August and down from 6.7 per cent in September last year, according to EU statistical office Eurostat.

Eurostat estimates that 12.960 million men and women in the EU, of whom 10.988 million in the euro area, were unemployed in September this year.

The euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 6.6 per cent in September 2022, down from 6.7 per cent in August and 7.3 per cent in the same month last year. The European Union (EU) unemployment rate was 6 per cent in the month—stable compared with August and down from 6.7 per cent in September last year, according to EU statistical office Eurostat.

Compared with August this year, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 52,000 in the EU and by 66,000 in the euro area.

Compared with September 2021, unemployment decreased by 1.304 million in the EU and by 1.071 million in the euro area.

In September this year, 2.747 million young persons (under 25) were unemployed in the EU, of whom 2.241 million were in the euro area.

The youth unemployment rate was 14.6 per cent both in the EU and in the euro area in the month, up from 14.3 per cent and 14.4 per cent respectively in the previous month.
