Bangladesh’s Nagad and SwissContact join hands to help RMG workers

Bangladesh Postal Department’s mobile financial service Nagad and Switzerland’s non-profit organisation SwissContact have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enable around 17,400 readymade garments (RMG) workers to gain access to Nagad’s digital financial products and services under the ‘Sarathi – Improving Financial Health’ programme.

The programme is expected to help beneficiaries transact their digital currency at alternative avenues. “The programme activities formally started on May 24, 2022 to introduce digital financial services, especially digital transactions, to 17,400 RMG communities by October 20, 2022,” Theres Meyer, content & public relations manager, Swisscontact told Fibre2Fashion in an email communication.

“Nagad is very proud to be involved in this initiative to bring people like RMG workers, who are still lagging behind in the use of digital financial transactions, under the ambit of contemporary traditional and digital financial services. Our goal is to financially include more people who are currently deprived of the financial facilities and provide them efficient financial services,” Rahel Ahmed, chief executive officer (CEO) of Nagad, said.
