The hospital will be located on the campus of the current Trinity Health Medical Center, formerly known as St. Joseph Mercy Brighton, at 7575 Grand River Ave. That center will also undergo renovations as part of the project.

“Adding inpatient care to our Brighton campus provides opportunities to integrate services in one location within a modern care environment designed to meet the changing needs of our community,” John O’Malley, president of Trinity Health Livingston and Trinity Health Medical Center Brighton, said in a press release. “A new hospital enhances medical services from an easily accessible location, delivered by exceptional providers our patients have come to know and trust.”

The project is part of a multiyear process of moving all care away from Trinity’s Howell hospital to Brighton. Trinity has not yet determined the ultimate fate of the hospital in Howell, which is licensed for 66 beds.

The new hospital will offer feature many services including primary care, general medicine, gynecological surgery, urology, cardiology and intensive cardiac rehab, orthopedics, minimally invasive general surgery, bariatric surgery and oncology.

The Brighton hospital won’t be the only new hospital in the region in 2025. Michigan Medicine is constructing a $920 million, 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms next to its existing hospital in Ann Arbor. That project was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, but is not expected to open in the fall of 2025.
