According to trade sources, there was no support from downstream industry. Garment and fabric manufacturers are adopting a wait and watch policy as they want to hold buying till stability returns to the market. A Ludhiana-based trader told Fibre2Fashion, “We cannot expect better buying in this month. Cheaper cotton and poor buying from the weaving industry are forcing the mills and stockists to reduce prices.” Last week, Reliance Industry had reduced prices of PSF and upstream raw material which was also dragging yarn prices.

In the Ludhiana market, poly spun yarn prices declined by ₹5 per kg due to weaker demand. Few varieties of polyester-cotton yarn also noted a fall in prices. According to trade sources, payment condition was very tight which is affecting the buying capacity. However, the price of recycled polyester fibre remained stable as spinning mills are consuming more quantity of cheaper materials to control production costs. 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) was sold at ₹265-275 per kg (GST inclusive), according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) was priced at ₹230-240 per kg. 20 count PC (recycled-O/E) PSF yarn (40/60) was traded at ₹185-195 per kg. 30 count poly spun yarn was sold at ₹168-175 per kg. The price of recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹88-91 per kg.

According to traders, cotton prices increased by ₹100-200 per maund of 37.2 kg as arrival is yet to gather momentum. Cotton arrival is normal, but buyers have rushed earlier due to scarcity during the last couple of months. New cotton was traded at ₹9,100-9,200 per maund for ready delivery in Punjab and Haryana. October delivery deals were finalised at ₹7,900-8,000 per maund. Full September delivery cotton was traded at ₹8,500-8,600 per maund.
