Cotton yarn, comber prices decline in north India due to poor demand




North India’s yarn market continued to feel pressure due to poor demand. Cotton yarn prices came down by ₹5 per kg in Ludhiana but steadied in Delhi. The price of cotton comber too declined to ₹100 per kg in Ludhiana. The downtrend was visible in few counts of yarn in Panipat’s recycled yarn market, while the price of yarn of other counts remained stable.

Cotton yarn prices slipped by ₹5 per kg in Ludhiana, and most varieties were sold at lower prices. A Ludhiana based trader Gulshan Jain told Fibre2Fashion, “The market has not yet found bottom line. Buyers will come back for big buying only when they have confidence. No one wants to buy yarn in a declining market, except for their immediate need.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹380-385 per kg (GST inclusive), according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹370-375 per kg and ₹375-380 per kg respectively. Carded yarn of 30 count was quoted at ₹335-340 per kg.

Delhi market noted weaker sentiment, but the prices remained stable. According to trade sources, demand was not much encouraging as buyers were reluctant for fresh buying. However, limited buying supported yarn prices at previous levels. In Delhi, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹380-385 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹415-420 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹340-345 per kg and 40 count carded at ₹380-385 per kg.

Recycled yarn at Panipat also noted sluggish trend amid weaker sentiments. A local trader said that the market will have to wait longer for demand to improve. The price of few counts of recycled yarn declined by ₹5 per kg. Comber also witnessed steep fall due to buying pressure amid poor demand. In Panipat market, 10s recycled yarn (white) was traded at ₹90-95 per kg (excluding GST), 10s recycled yarn (coloured – high quality) at ₹110-115 per kg, 10s recycled yarn (coloured – low quality) at ₹85-90 per kg and 20s recycled high quality PC yarn (coloured) at ₹125-130 per kg. 10s optical yarn was traded at ₹100-110 per kg in the market. Comber price decreased to ₹100 per kg from ₹115 of previous week. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted steady at ₹ 90 per kg.

Meanwhile, cotton prices gained in north India as ICE cotton had registered upward trend on Friday. However, ICE cotton slipped on Monday during electronic trading session. According to traders, the price of natural fibre increased by ₹100-150 per maund of 37.2 kg. Cotton was sold at ₹8,800-9,100 per maund in Punjab, ₹8,300-8,600 per maund in Haryana and ₹9,000-9,150 per maund in Upper Rajasthan.
