Assam Logistics Policy, 2022, approved by state cabinet in India

The cabinet in India’s Assam state recently approved a new policy to develop the state into a logistics hub. Chaired by state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the cabinet meeting approved the Assam Logistics Policy, 2022, whose key features include proposal evaluation and incentive disbursement through the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) portal.

A dedicated logistics division headed by a secretary-rank officer will be set up.

Under the new policy, industrial parks developed by the Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) and the Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (AIIDC) will earmark 15 per cent of their land for development of logistics infrastructure, including logistics parks, truck terminals, cold storage, warehouses and primary processing centres, according to a news agency.

The department of revenue and disaster management will prioritise conversion of land wherever required for setting up of logistics facility.
