India’s Sept merchandise imports rise 84.75% over Sept 2020 figure

India’s merchandise imports in September were worth $56.38 billion, an increase of 84.75 per cent over $30.52 billion in the same month last year and an increase of 49.58 per cent over $37.69 billion in September 2019. The trade deficit in September was $22.94 billion, while it was $78.81 billion during the April-September period this year.

India’s merchandise imports in between April and September this year were worth $275.92 billion, an increase of 82.36 per cent over $151.31 billion in April-September 2020 and a rise of 11.22 per cent over $248.08 billion in the same period in 2019, according to an official release.

The value of non-petroleum exports in September 2021 was $28.53 billion, registering a growth of 18.72 per cent over similar exports of $24.03 billion in September 2020 and a growth of 26.32 per cent over similar exports worth $22.59 billion in September 2019.

The value of non-petroleum imports was $38.95 billion in September this year with a growth of 57.73 per cent over similar imports of $24.69 billion in September 2020 and a growth of 36.14 per cent over similar imports worth $28.61 billion in the same month in 2019.

The value of non-petroleum exports in the April-September 2021 period was $169.13 billion, an increase of 48.87 per cent over $113.61 billion during the same period last year and an increase of 22.64 per cent over $137.91 billion during April-September 2019.

The value of non-petroleum imports in April-September 2021 was $202.95 billion, showing an increase of 70.02 per cent compared to non-oil imports of $119.37 billion in April-September 2020 and an increase of 10.97 per cent compared to non-oil imports worth $182.88 billion in April-September 2019.
