99% goods exported from Bangladesh to get China’s duty-free benefits


China announced during its recent meeting with Bangladesh that it will raise duty-free access to 99 per cent products from the latter beginning September 1. Foreign minister Wang Yi led the Chinese delegation. China had been providing duty-free facility to 97 per cent of Bangladeshi products, including all garment products, since July 1, 2021.

Three hundred and eighty three new products, including leather items, were added to the list later, thereby expanding the benefit to 98 per cent of the products.

The meeting discussed public-private partnership cooperation, Chinese investment, project implementation, easing visa restrictions and geopolitics.

The Bangladesh side was led by deputy minister of foreign relations Mohammad Shahriar Alam told newsmen.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told Wang that South Asia, South East Asia and China could work together for economic progress by facing challenges arising from the Russia-Ukraine war.
